EGR valve problem?
Hello
Today driving on the motorway i was doing 60mph and then when i put my foot down i had no power. I had my foot flat to the floor and i was only managing about 30mph, so i pulled onto hard shoulder and switched off engine. I started it again and tried to pull away but stalled very easily. Anyway after a few miles of struggling to get past 40mph i pulled over. I called the RAC out and he reckons its the egr valve. On two diagnostic machines it has flagged up a problem with the valve. Does this sound like the egr valve has finally packed up? A local auto electrician also reckons it is. However he won't just replace the valve. He wants to put it on a diagnostics, check engine over and then probably replace the valve. Is all that worth doing if people suspect its the valve? Thanks. Phil

I am in Australia and my Punto has been with the Dealer for a month now as they were waiting for a new EGR Valve to be sent from Manufacturer as there weren't any here in Oz. I found out today from the Dealer that the Manufacturer doesn't have any either. The Dealer has contacted Fiat Australia to see where we go from here because I can't drive mine at all. It kicks over then immediately stops. I am so glad we paid the extra money last year when we were offered to extend the manufacturer's warranty by three years. Tomorrow I finally get a loan car from Dealership as they have no idea how much longer this is going to take and I have already had a hire car for 3 weeks. I love my Punto but this is just becoming a joke now and really starting to piss me off. Mind you it is the first problem we have ever had with the car in nearly 4 years. Good luck with your issue Phil.

Keep us updated, but it's hardly becoming a joke with only one problem. Lol.

No Jon what is a joke is the fact that fiat Australia are being taken over by Chrysler on 1 may so they aren't being very helpful in getting the part for the dealer. Then we paid for a three year extended manufacturers warranty from the dealership and the policy is done through Allianz Insurance and they refused to pay for a hire car as they are saying that they only pay whe the car is actually being repaired so I have to sort that out with their internal dispute resolution team. I had to hire a vehicle for three weeks while I waited for the dealership to have a loan car available. So yeah to me it is a joke by now, I mean honestly is it that hard for fiat Australia to order the part in.

It was the EGR valve. I had a new one fitted and all is well again!
