how much to read codes?
just wondering what you people think is a reasonable price to read fault codes and clear them if requested?
looking at buying one but its fairly expensive for what i want so was looking at ways to recoup the cost? i know that sounds cheeky but if it saves the person money over getting it read by fiat???
i once went to a back street garage who charged me £20 and only gave me the codes and cleared them. :( i was thinking more £5-£10. can also reset service interval and read sensor info too.

How much is it I thought you could get cheap ones for £20?
I don't charge people to use mine, the codes are usually generic as well so sometimes not as good as using a snap on which can give extra info.

between £70-£100 depending on the one i settle for. like i say its not just a code reader, it will give sensor info and engine details and also reset service intervals. i believe it will read generic and dealer specific codes too.
if i was only spending £20 on one then i wouldnt charge as that would be really cheeky imo. but from previous experience the cheap ones wont read my ecu.

Re: how much to read codes?
What is the advantage of the first one over a £20 one?

Re: how much to read codes?
i may be reading it wrong but the £20 one only reads and erases trouble codes. the one im looking at reads the sensors and engine details? is that not right?

The web site is not really that clear, it says live data 581 on the one screen and then on the details part it doen's mention it its the same as the 580.
Its also not clear if the cheapest one reads any less vehicles than the expensive one as they are listed in different ways.
