    Default Want some extra power

    Hello

Got a 1.2 stilo and i love it, although its a bit slow.

Wanting to make it a bit faster on budget as im a student. been browsing ebay at stilo stuff. and come across a chip? really cheap but not sure if its any good?

Also what do these K&N Air filters do? as they seem quite cheap (70-80quid) worth it? and easy to fit?

or any other ideas to make it go a bit better. also anyone fitted a nice exhaust for less than £100? as i hate the limp one lol

chips are bad, the 5 pound jobbies. they basically make your car think its always cold, and when the engine is cold it pumps in more petrol - ala more power. This is not healthy for your car!

the K&N filters are less restricted than the standard airbox, taking air in faster to the engine, to in theory, improve performance. But depending on setup, this can have a negative effect. (exposure to heatsoak from the engine results in warm air going into the engine again, and that doesnt give good performance.. you would need to it be an enclosed filter with a cold air feed ideally - or moved downwards near you wing or something to try and avoid the heat) They do make your car sound more sporty tho!

As for exhausts, i've not bothered on my stilo, but on my old MG a full stainless system cost £300.

Keep in mind that a good exhaust, and good air intake setup will still only result in maybe 10bhp extra at the most.

but a decent intake and a free flowing exhaust, plus a remap, will produce a healthy gain.

Cool Re: Want some extra power

Panel filter is the safest way to go you might get about 2hp from it if your lucky..exhaust might give you 5hp if its been made correctly ..and I mean correctly cos there are some right abortionists out there.. steer clear of the GRS induction kits they do a good job when it comes to tarmac sucking and collapsing in on themselves..quality of them have hit rock bottom from what I have seen of late..

yeah gone down hill big time, i normally say stear clear of k&n, but the only one of them you should get would be the Typhoon kit, expensive but works, next obvious is the BMC CDA Kit

GSR kit was going to be my next mod as well, damn!

There are a fair few kits out there I've been looking at, K&N's the cheapest, then the Pipercross standard foam set up, then there's the Powertec one's and finally the Pipercross Viper kits, which are more expensive than the GSRs. Feck know's which is the best out of that lot as I've never seen any threads on induction for 1.2s apart from "don't bother with K&N" and such. Of course, many a person did rave about the GSRs, but that video

I was going to get the GSR as it was meant to be the only one for the 1.2 that'd give any real gain, given the positioning of the cone. But if the hoses are that crap at the moment, I might get my exhaust done next while the quality issues are ironed out

There's a good custom place a few miles from where I stay, so may well get a quote and see what they can come up with :)

Its not to hard to make your own from silicone hoses..the gain from the GSR one isnt great on the 1.2 anyway and its mostly the noise it gives off that gets people thinking they are on brands hatch and going faster than they really are for what you will get from the induction you would just be as wise to fit a panel filter ..and secure in the thought that you wont be sucking up water from the road at the same time would be a big bonus as course..the reputation of the company has gone down the pan [not that it was ever great in the first place ]you only have to look on fiat forum and other sites to see that..I was involved with GSR [not financially ]as many of you know and TBO I am so glad I no longer am with shoddy workmanship and mounting complaints how long can this company continue on..it was also reported on another forum that the company was not registered in the owners name or address so you have to wonder what the hell is going on there..no receipts ever given and a shoddy customer service and a delivery to the door for cash just has to get you wondering .. the only reason that it does are the people that recommend him and you just have to wonder and question the mentality behind that and why they do it..
