    a quick question
ive fitted the intake pipe to pop out the front grill just below the headlight
    works a treat
but ive got a nagging felling about it being too low and too exposed
i know obviously i will need to avoid large puddles
my main niggle is it sucking in everything and anything that comes anywere near it

Hi mate glad your getting there, to be honest with your engine not being of the "tuned" nature in terms of you've not fettled to much, i wouldn;t worry about the height etc of the intake. the best height is around 6 - 8 inches of the deck, for nice cold air, the downside is you turn your car into a water hoover (You must have read about poor Abz car!),
But to sort of help and maintain a nice look, put some heat shielding around the intake pipe and the filter.

Plus you can just go for a nice cold air feed, which is in affect just a pipe that directs cooler air towards your filter, as there is no unnatural suction on this pipe then the risk of air being pushed up it by the car moving along; bringing , car killing levels of moisture are pretty low. (You can reduce teh risk by putting some fine netting / filter material over the end of it (Nick your missus' stockings!! Oooh Errr .....Easy PNL i only said stockings lol)

    cheers for the reply mate
did actually think of the stockings option
think my main concern was in a torential downpoor doing 70 along the motorway high levels of spray etc

So long as you don't drive through any floods or bloody great puddles you should be fine

Besides, the water would have a long way to go on the 1.6 before it gets drawn into the engine and your filter should take care of that in the main. Thing to do would be to check the filter after driving in the conditions that worry you - for peace of mind
